    Agency: Army Emergency Relief

    LOANS, GRANTS AND SCHOLARSHIPS: Provides loans, grants and scholarships to soldiers on active duty and their eligible dependents; Army Reserve and National Guard Soldiers activiated on Title 10 orders for more than 30 days and their eligible dependents; Soldiers retired for longevity, medical or upon reaching age 60 (reserve component) and their eligible dependents; Surviving spouses who have not remarried and children of soldiers who died on active duty or died after reaching retirement eligibility.

    1) INTEREST-FREE LOANS: Provides zero interest-free loans to pay for UNFORESEEN emergency financial assistance such as: basic living expenses, car repairs, emergency travel and funeral expenses.  AER has over 30 categories of assistance to aid Army Families.

    2) GRANTS AND SCHOLARSHIPS: Provides grants and scholarships to the spouses and dependent children of soldiers.

    Payment Description: None. Must repay loan.

    Intake and Eligibility: Army members on extended active duty and their dependents. Members of the Reserve Components of the Army (National Guard under Title 10 authority and Army Reserve) who are on continuous active duty for more than 30 consecutive days and their eligible family members. Army members retired from active duty because of longevity or medically retired or receiving DFAS retirement pay, and their eligible family members. Widows, widowers and orphans of Army members who died while on active duty or after retirement.
