    OVERVIEW: A nonprofit environmental organization dedicated to restoring the Anacostia River and its watershed communities. 


    1) ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS: Includes class instruction, guided river tours, and service learning restoration programs.

         o Watershed Explorers (WE): Offered for middle and high school-aged students.

         o River Habitat (RH): Offered for students in the third through fifth grades.

         o Shad/Herring Awareness and Restoration Efforts (SHARE): Works with school children to raise and release fish fry, restoring migratory shad and herring populations.
    Rice Rangers (RR) program provides raise wetland plants in classrooms and then go to river to re-vegetate damaged wetlands with their plants.
    Watershed Stewards Academy (WSA)adult education building a community of stewards trained in best storm water practices and implementation techniques.

    2) RESTORATION PROGRAMS: Available to persons of all ages.

         o Non-native Invasive Plant Removals: Volunteers assist with the removal of non-native invasive plants from area parks to help restore local ecosystems.

         o Tree Plantings: Plants trees in riparian buffers and public spaces around the watershed.

         o Cleanups: Offers opportunities for people of all ages to assist in the removal of floating trash and debris from the Anacostia River and its shores.

    3) WATERSHED WATCH: Advocates for environmentally beneficial efforts around the Anacostia River Watershed.

    4) COMMUNITY OUTREACH: Provides information and support to other grassroots organizations and citizens regarding effective ways to work on environmental issues.

    5) EDUCATION: Speakers offer presentations providing information on wetland restoration, pollution, tree planting and their effects on the Anacostia River to schools, churches, and other community groups.
