    EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE FOR FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN:  Program is designed to prevent the destitution of a child younger than 21 years old. The program provides financial assistance to families who experience an emergent need where there are no resources available to meet the emergency and the emergency did not occur as a result of quitting a job without good cause. EAFC is only available to families with a related child under the age of 21 living in the home. Assistance available under EAFC is based on the family's assessed need and is contingent on the availability of funds. Clients are required to participate in work activities for a minimum of 40 hours per week in exchange for child care, training and emergency assistance.

         --Relocation within 60 days after eviction/foreclosure- $900
         --Utility cut-off $500
         --Restoration of utility services $500
         --Burial Assistance $650 (The deceased must have been receiving social services benefits to qualify.)
         --Other- (At the discretion of the director or designee.)

    NOTE REGARDING SANCTIONS: Non-compliance with program requirements can result in loss of entire cash benefit. Cash can be restored upon compliance. The family does retain Food Stamps and Medical Assistance during this time.

Appeals and status updates can also be directed to this number. You can check the status of your food, cash, energy, emergency, and aged/blind/disabled medical assistance applications submitted online at https://mydhrbenefits.dhr.state.md.us. Call 1-800-332-6347 for active cases and applications not submitted online. Please be aware that cash is issued by last name. For names A-F, the issuance date is the 2nd. For names G-P, the issuance date is the 3rd. For names Q-Z, the issuance date is the 4th.

    Intake and Eligibility: Families with a minor child and pregnant women who are currently receiving Section 8 / Public Housing assistance are eligible. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal immigrant who resides in Maryland, has applied for Child Support Services and participates in work activity.
