OVERVIEW: The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is a national, non-profit, 501(c)3 mental health organization with affiliates in every state of the U.S. and the District of Columbia.
The mission of NAMI of Prince George's County, an affiliate of NAMI Maryland, is to provide hope for individuals and their families in the county who are living with the debilitating effects of severe and persistent mental illnesses through programs of education, support, and advocacy that improve the quality of their lives.
NAMI strives to eliminate the pervasive stigma of mental illness, continuously advocate for wellness, effect positive changes in the mental health system, increase public understanding of mental illnesses, raise awareness of the critical needs of persons affected by mental illness, and foster community compassion and support for families along their journey to wellness and recovery.
NAMI provides consumer, family, and public mental health awareness and education programs; consumer and family support groups; behavioral health resource referrals through its Helpline; and advocacy efforts to support housing, education, and employment opportunities for the mentally disabled.
